Use your Second Career Benefits at Everest!

Here are some frequently asked questions about Second Career:

What is Second Career?
Second Career is a Canadian government program designed to help re-train people for careers in high-demand. Second Career funding became available in June 2008, and the money may be used to help pay for tuition, travel, books, and other various training costs.

How does Second Career work?
To find out if you qualify for Second Career funding, you can find out right away by simply visiting an Employment Ontario Assessment Centre. At the employment centre, you will speak with a counsellor who can determine what type of financial help you qualify for.

Who is eligible for Second Career funding?
This last November, the guidelines for Second Career expanded to include:
(1) Workers laid off as far back as January 1, 2005; (2) Laid-off workers who have taken an interim job to make ends meet; (3) Short-term training options for laid-off workers who are not eligible for Employment Insurance; and more.

Who do I contact to find out more about Second Career?

As mentioned previously, you need to talk with a counsellor at an Employment Assesment Centre. The counsellor will have you complete a Returen to Work Action Plan to determine what type of funding you may qualify for.

What are some of the Second Career training options?
Second Career can help provide you funding to train for a variety of in-demand career fields; such as: health care, natural and applied sciences, computer and information systems, business, and more.

Who provides Second Career funding?

The Second Career funding you receive may come through the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

What if I lack the courses necessary to pursue a College program?

Even though you haven’t received your Grade 12 diploma, you may still qualify for Second Career funding.
