Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW)
On June 1, 2010, Ontario launched the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW), a joint federal-provincial initiative that provides laid-off older workers with a broad range of training opportunities to help them find new jobs and match their skills and experience with the needs of employers wanting to hire in their community.
To qualify for TIOW, you must be:
- Age 55 to 64 (clients over age 64 who meet TIOW criteria are also eligible);
- Laid off (either out of work or working less than an average of 20 hours per week);
- Legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Lack skills needed to find a new job; and
- Live in a vulnerable community with a population of 250,000 or less that has high unemployment and is largely dependent on a single employer or industry.
